The Joint Seminar for students of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University (UGAS-EU) was held at the Ehime University Tarumi Campus, September 3–4, 2025.
The Joint Seminar, a required subject for UGAS-EU students, is a residential seminar conducted in English. The seminar included a lecture and group work to help students advance their research, and provided a forum for exchange between international students, Japanese students, and faculty members from the constituent universities (Ehime, Kagawa, and Kochi).
The seminar began with an opening ceremony and self-introductions, followed by a lecture from Professor Dennis Murphy of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences. His sessions focused on research ethics and the process of publishing academic papers, providing valuable insights for all participants.
In preparation for the group presentations scheduled for the following day, students engaged in intensive practice sessions that continued into the evening after dinner.
On the second day, participants were divided into six groups and delivered their presentations in the Active Learning Room of the Faculty of Agriculture building. Each group presented the results of their discussions based on pre-assigned topics, showcasing creativity and collaboration in their delivery.
The seminar concluded with a closing ceremony, featuring feedback from faculty members and final remarks from Professor Takuya Sugawara, Dean of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences. Completion certificates were awarded to all participants, marking the end of the enriching two-day program.
After the seminar, students from different universities were taking photos together and chatting happily, having formed strong bonds through their shared experience.
UGAS-EU will continue to support research activities by providing opportunities for such co-curricular activities between Japanese and international students.
